SAN DIEGO JUNIOR THEATRE AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS AT OPENING NIGHT OF UPCOMING SHOW

SAN DIEGO – San Diego Junior Theatre is proud to announce the winners of its annual Christian Rowley Scholarship, a fund started by the Rowley family to honor the memory of their son, who participated in the children’s theatre program during the early 90’s. Christian succumbed to a sudden illness during a post high school graduation trip. The scholarship pays for a year of class and summer camp fees for deserving students who otherwise could not afford such extracurricular opportunities.

This year’s winners will be announced and presented their scholarships during the opening night performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Junior Theatre’s Casa Del Prado theatre in Balboa Park. The presentations will be made by Christian’s mother, Jody Rowley, a past member of Junior Theatre’s board of trustees.

This year’s Rowley Scholarship will be presented to:

1. Carlos Gallo Jr., a 9 year old student at San Diego Cooperative Charter School. He saw Jr. Theatre’s Bridge to Terebithia during a field trip and loved it so much that he can’t wait to participate.

2. Anadela Naverette is a 4th grader at Rosa Parks Elementary. She visited Junior Theatre for the first time through the School in the Park Program, and wants to learn more this year about what it takes to become an actress on stage.

3. Alexis Fuentes is in the 4th grade at Rosa Parks Elementary. Alexis just moved to the United States 6 months ago. He’s worked hard to learn English, and he says he loves acting because it’s a great way to express how you’re feeling.

4. Theron (TJ) Harrison is in the 8th grade and is very passionate about acting. He looks forward to participating in another production after his experiences in School House Rock Live!

Junior Theatre congratulates them all and thanks the Rowley family for their generous support. The legacy of Christian’s wonderful Junior Theatre experiences benefits new students every year.

San Diego Junior Theatre is one of the oldest continuing children’s theatre programs in the nation. SDJT has dedicated itself for over half a century to enriching children’s lives through the magic of theatre arts. Currently in its 60th season, Junior Theatre looks forward to introducing more of San Diego County’s youth to the performing arts through its professional-caliber shows and innovative educational programs.
